Does the modified WHO classification accurately assess cardiovascular risk and predict adverse fetal outcomes in pregnant women with heart disease?
Does the modified WHO classification accurately assess cardiovascular risk and predict adverse fetal outcomes in pregnant women with heart disease?
The modified WHO classification is a valid and useful tool for predicting adverse fetal outcomes and assessing cardiovascular risk in pregnant women with heart disease.
Supports modified WHO classification for risk assessment in pregnant cardiac patients; hypothesis-generating and requires prospective validation before practice change.
PURPOSE: To validate the modified World Health Organization (WHO) classification in pregnant women with congenital and acquired heart diseases. PATIENTS AND CONCLUSION: The modified WHO classification is useful not only for obtaining a cardiovascular risk assessment in pregnant women with heart disease but also for predicting adverse fetal outcomes. It must, therefore, be implemented into routine care service at all levels of health care systems.
