Polymer networks which can be “de‐crosslinked” in a controlled way, i.e. at a given moment and under chosen experimental conditions, have a number of potential applications such as temporary protective coatings and erodable bio‐materials. If the de‐crosslinking occurs by scission of bonds which differ from those that form the branching points of the network, soluble star‐shaped polymers are formed, the analysis of which gives information about the functionality of the branching points.
