Theoretical investigation demonstrates gravitational-wave memory effects can encode information cyclically, suggesting significant implications for cosmology.
Paper Three We investigate whether gravitational-wave memory effects, when grounded in the UV-complete quadratic gravity framework of Liu, Quintin & Afshordi (2026), can persist as holographically encoded information through a cosmological Big Bounce. Building on the celestial holographic dictionary established in our companion papers — wherein permanent spacetime scars map onto operators in the two-dimensional celestial conformal field theory via the PSZ triangle — we argue that cyclic persistence of holographically encoded information is a logical consequence of the framework. We further note that a sufficiently advanced civilisation encoding information in permanent metric scars could in principle persist as information through successive cosmic cycles — the Lifeboat hypothesis. We close with a concrete call to action for observational programmes targeting the CMB and stochastic gravitational-wave background for signatures of pre-bounce holographic encoding. Third and final paper in a three-part theoretical programme: Holographic Memory and Cyclic Cosmology.
