Historical tribute highlights Dr. Penry's impact on epilepsy research and policy in the US, marking NINDS's milestone.
This large-format poster presents an historical tribute to James Kiffin Penry, MD, one of the most influential figures in the history of epilepsy in the United States. Dr. Penry served as Chief of the Epilepsy Branch at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), where he played a central role in shaping epilepsy research, seizure classification, antiepileptic drug development, and national epilepsy policy during the latter half of the 20th century. The poster was created by Roger J. Porter, MD, in 2026 to mark the 75th Anniversary of NINDS, and draws on the author's direct professional association with Dr. Penry. It is intended as a permanent scholarly record of Dr. Penry's contributions to the field.
