Vertebral deformity, vertebral coalescence, hyperostosis and some minor anomalies are observed in one specimen of red mullet, Mullus barbatus , collected from the coast of Urla, Izmir Bay, North-eastern Aegean Sea. All abnormalities were found in the abdominal and caudal regions. Factors such as environmental and genetic could be behind such deformities.
