Review explores phytoestrogens' effects on Alzheimer's disease, suggesting new therapeutic pathways.
Alzheimer’s disease remains a major global challenge, with its prevalence rising in recent decades and imposing a significant socioeconomic burden. Despite extensive research efforts, a treatment within the allopathic paradigm remains elusive. Early identification appears critical for optimal therapeutic effects, but lifestyle changes in middle age may reduce symptom severity. Phytoestrogens, which include a wide range of polyphenolic and nonsteroidal substances with estrogenlike characteristics, offer promising possibilities for Alzheimer’s disease. They are prevalent in numerous plant species and have antioxidant properties, improve memory function, reduce amyloidbeta production, and promote neural resilience. This review seeks to explore the therapeutic potential of phytoestrogens in AD treatment, combining information from in vitro and in vivo investigations to widen our understanding and stimulate novel therapeutic options.
