Assesses noise and vibration impacts of Starship Super Heavy in residential areas.
On May 27, 2025, SpaceX conducted the ninth test flight of Starship Super Heavy. Acoustic data were obtained at distances 1– 35.5 km from the launch tower, and acceleration data at 2.9 and 9.5 km from the tower. Analyses discussed include (a) a comparison of peak pressures across all measurement locations and with Flights 5 and 6, (b) a comparison of launch levels inside and outside residences at 2.9 and 9.5 km, and (c) data from the accelerometers placed inside and outside those same residences. As Starship’s launch cadence and number of launch locations increase, these analyses enhance our understanding of potential noise and vibration impacts of the world’s most powerful rocket.
