Demonstrates enhanced non-contact vibration sensing, indicating advancements in wireless communication applications.
Radiofrequency (RF) signals, such as Wi-Fi and millimeter-wave (mm-Wave), can be modulated by acoustic and mechanical vibrations, opening exciting opportunities for real-time and low-cost non-contact vibration sensing technologies. In this talk, I will present our recent research advances in this area: (1) an acoustic-metamaterial-based vibration amplification device that significantly enhances the sensitivity and functionality of Wi-Fi based vibration sensing systems, (2) a microphone-less sound detection system using mm-Wave based vibration sensing for music genre detection and speech recognition. Our work aims to integrate RF vibration sensing into the rapidly evolving landscape of wireless communication and cloud computing. These technologies have the potential to benefit a wide range of applications, including personalized healthcare, structural health monitoring, natural disaster detection, and advanced material characterization.
