Demonstrates three-dimensional acoustic impedance profiling in biological tissues, suggesting enhanced imaging capabilities.
The acoustic impedance microscope proposed by the presenter and his team transmits and receives focused ultrasonic waves through a polymer film. It then quantifies the acoustic impedance of the biological tissue in contact with the film, based on the film's own acoustic properties. Mechanically scanning the transducer in the lateral (x–y) directions and converting the reflection intensity in the time domain to acoustic impedance in the depth direction enables a three-dimensional acoustic impedance profile to be obtained. The presentation will exhibit examples of observations of cultured biological cells and skin tissue. The presenter will explain the signal processing pre-processing steps, including deconvolution calculations and frequency-domain spatial averaging. Furthermore, algorithms for converting reflection coefficient sequences into acoustic impedance in the depth direction will be presented based on practical examples.
