Abstract

Objective: Conduct bibliometric and visual analysis on the literature related to the correlation between pesticide exposure and Parkinson's Disease (PD), reveal the current research status and trends, and further explore the hotspots and trends in the research on the correlation between pesticides and PD from a global research perspective. Method: Search, screen and download the literature on the correlation between pesticide exposure and PD published from January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2024 on the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) website. Further, three types of software, namely CiteSpace, VOSviewer and Microsoft Excel, were utilized to conduct metrological and visual analyses of the above-mentioned literatures. Result: From January 1, 2015 to December 31, 2024, a total of 487 articles were included for our further bibliometric and visual analysis. We have observed that the number of papers published each year remains basically stable. Collaborative network analysis shows that the United States, China and India are the three countries that have published the largest number of papers in this research field. At the same time, they have cited a large number of papers and carried out collaboration with other countries. Ritz Beate is the author who has published the most related articles, with a total of 14. The article published by Tanner CM in 2021 received the highest number of citations, totaling 123 times. Further, we conducted co-occurrence network clustering on the keywords. Among them, “neuroimmunity” and “microglial cell activation” are two of the latest research hotspots at present, providing literature organization ideas and theoretical basis for our subsequent experimental research. Conclusion: The trends and hotspots in the field of research on the correlation between pesticide exposure and PD are fully reflected in the two aspects of “neuroimmunity” and “microglial cell activation”, providing a literature theoretical basis for subsequent research.
