Study aims to minimize tsunami impact using air curtains in coastal systems, suggesting innovative defense techniques.
This preprint documents a system-level concept for active tsunami run-up reduction. The method combines a full-depth pneumatic array projecting a Mach 2–3 air curtain from seafloor to surface with a synchronized hydraulic displacement array generating timed anti-phase troughs. Preliminary analysis indicates 70–100% energy cancellation is energetically feasible at ~12 TW air + ~10 GW hydraulic for a 10m design wave, assuming dedicated multi-GW power. Control latency and thermal management are identified as key research gaps. This work transposes recreational wave-generator principles and industrial air-curtain systems to open-ocean hazard mitigation. No prior art combining these elements at multi-TW scale was found. tsunami mitigation, air curtain, active wave cancellation, pneumatic breakwater, hydraulic displacement, coastal defense
