Objectives: Although CCM occupies only a limited portion of most current textbooks, seven hidden logical issues can be identified in its presentation, which contribute to a vague and mechanistically incoherent understanding of how the corticopapillary osmotic gradient (OGISF) is generated. These logical deficiencies have been systematically identified and resolved in the author’s 2023 article in Advances in Physiology Education through a coherent, cycle-by-cycle CCM framework. This project presents and illustrates how that logically coherent instructional framework eliminates these persistent logical issues in the teaching of CCM. Hypothesis: The application of the logically coherent instructional framework will effectively promote learners’ mechanistic understanding of CCM by clarifying the logical deficiencies present in traditional explanations. Methods: The seven logical issues analyzed in the author’s 2023 publication were organized into a small number of recurring themes, such as: (1) separating “flow” and “single effect” in ways that introduce new inconsistencies; (2) depicting intra–thick ascending limb osmolarity at the lower end as fluctuating rather than progressively increasing across cycles; and (3) implying that CCM can proceed indefinitely rather than recognizing its inherently transient nature. For each theme, the logical flaw is presented and directly contrasted with the corresponding logically coherent explanation provided by the cycle-by-cycle CCM framework. Results: Instructional development is ongoing. In prior classroom use, the revised CCM framework was associated with a marked reduction in student requests for clarification regarding how the OGISF emerges. Once the previously missing causal link, the activity gradient of NKCC2 (AGNKCC2) is introduced as the direct driver of OGISF formation, the emergence of OGISF becomes a straightforward consequence in students’ reasoning. These informal instructional observations have directly shaped the design priorities for both educator- and student-facing materials, with emphasis on a continuous, transparent causal chain from AGNKCC2 to OGISF formation. Planned pilot implementation will more systematically evaluate clarity, feasibility, and perceived value among learners and instructors. Conclusions: A CCM instructional framework that explicitly incorporates AGNKCC2 and addresses long-standing logical issues provides a promising basis for more coherent teaching of CCM. By helping educators see where traditional explanations break down and offering a clear, causal alternative, this work aims to reduce conceptual confusion and strengthen mechanistic understanding of CCM.
