Water electrolysis is a green and sustainable hydrogen production technology that can alleviate the global energy and environmental crisis. Affordable and efficient OER catalysts are central to advancing water electrolysis technology. Herein, we report a simple one-pot method to prepare NiFe-based bimetallic coordination polymers (NiFe-CPs-x) with a 3D nanosheet structure. These materials can be directly used as OER catalysts, bypassing the subsequent thermal decomposition step and reducing the production cost. Owing to its large specific surface area, more exposed active sites, the synergistic effect between bimetals, and excellent structural stability, NiFe-CPs-0.15 exhibits exceptional OER catalytic activity (275 mV@50 mA cm−2, 293 mV@100 mA cm−2) and stability (140 h@10 mA cm−2). More remarkably, NiFe-CPs-0.15‖Pt/C also demonstrates outstanding overall water splitting (OWS) performance (1.49 V@10 mA cm−2) and stability (30 h@10 mA cm−2). This study provides a facile method for preparing directly applicable and promising NiFe-based coordination polymer electrocatalysts.
