The constants α and β appearing in assumed interatomic energies of the type α/rm—β/r6, m>6, have been calculated for the rare gases for various m, using solid state data only. Using these results the equations of state of these gases in the solid phase have been calculated, and compared with recent experimental data. For neon, m = 14 gave excellent agreement, while for krypton and argon m = 12 gave reasonable agreement with experiment.
