A model for ionic screening originated by Bjerrum, which allows for associated ion pairs, is modified to make it applicable to situations where the concentration of dissociated pairs is large enough so that their screening energy e s ≤ kT. This is accomplished by sharply cutting off the Bjerrum pair distribution function at a radius which corresponds to the average volume per dissociated ion pair. The model is applied to explain the conductivity of an acceptor band formed by the dissociation of ion pairs in several liquid semiconductor alloys.
