Experimental analysis explores silver ion binding with guanylic acid, suggesting potential molecular interactions.
The complexing of deoxyguanylic acid with silver ion has been studied by potentiometric determinations of silver binding, pH-stat proton release measurements, and ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The stepwise equilibria 3 Ag+ + 2 GH ⇌ Ag3G2H++ + H+ K32 Ag3G2H++ + Ag+ ⇌ Ag4G++ + H+ K132 fit the data fairly well, and are proposed as a tentative explanation, although the exclusive occurrence of these reactions has not been conclusively proved.
