The rule of law – a basic principle of jurisprudence: A theoretical-legal analysis

The article highlights the content of the principle of “rule of law”. The development and its understanding by various authors are analyzed. The European approach to the rule of law is outlined. The reasons for the complexity of its understanding and the reasons for the lack of a single, generalized definition are clarified. The elements (components) of the content of the principle of the rule of law are determined. The significance and role of the principle of the rule of law in the legal life of Ukraine, its status are established. The rule of law is an integrated principle based on requirements (sub-principles) that are based on the provisions of natural law and have constitutional enshrining. The main purpose of the rule of law is to protect the individual from the arbitrariness of the state and representatives of state power.
