Abstract Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are indicated in patients with deep venous thrombosis and a contraindication to anticoagulation and are typically removed when they are no longer needed. Real-world data demonstrates that only a small proportion of IVC filters is retrieved, imposing a risk for IVC thrombosis, occlusion and post-thrombotic syndrome. Here, we present a case of bilateral IVC filter-associated thrombosis in a patient with duplicate IVC and retained filters, treated with endovascular reconstruction. We also perform a selective review of the literature and highlight the efficiency of endovascular stenting across chronically occluded IVC filters in select patients.
