The transition from dental school to independent clinical practice can present one of the most challenging phases in a dentist's professional journey. Newly qualified practitioners frequently experience uncertainty, anxiety and reduced confidence when faced with the realities and competitive environment of general practice. This article proposes the GRACE pathway, a structured framework to guide early-career dentists towards clinical competence, professional maturity and sustainable growth in general dental practice. Drawing on contemporary evidence and the authors’ professional experience, it examines anxieties commonly reported by recent graduates, including clinical complexity, regulatory pressures, social-media influence, financial demands and commercial bias. Each stage of the framework is supported by practical guidance and mentorship principles. The article concludes by encouraging a reflective, evidence-based and ethically grounded approach that fosters both professional fulfilment and patient trust.
