A causal model of the health care system proposed by Anderson (1973) is estimated using data for North Carolina. Parameter estimates are in general similar to those found by Anderson with data for New Mexico. Despite this agreement, several problems restrict the usefulness of this causal model in the realm of theory or policy. Much more investigation is required before a useful general model can be developed.
