An explicit expression is given for the Dirac single-particle density matrix in terms of the particle density and its derivatives. For Thomas-Fermi type calculations a reduction by a factor 1/9 in the coefficient of the Weizsacker inhomogeneity correction to the kinetic energy is implied.
