Evaluates climate mitigation strategies in Washington State, highlighting community impacts.
The Washington Climate Assembly (the Assembly) was an online public-deliberation process conducted in January and February 2021. Assembly participants were a stratified random sample of 77 Washington State residents. Assembly proceedings centered on a scoping question which read, “How can Washington State equitably design and implement climate mitigation strategies while strengthening communities disproportionately impacted by climate change across the State?” Meeting approximately twice per week for seven weeks, participants heard presentations on climate-change impacts and mitigation from experts and stakeholders, and then engaged in facilitated group deliberations to develop 145 recommendations for addressing climate change in Washington State.
