Abstract

In the Sangam era, many female poets sang kurundogai. Acham, Madam, Nanam were spoken of as belonging only to women during the Sangam period and later. In the Sangam literature, female poets have composed excellent songs as well as male poets due to their imagination. As one of them, Velliveediyar, has sung as a woman and a scholar, her songs are very helpful in understanding the mood of women. The purpose of this article is to examine the songs of Velliveediyar and the romantic feelings expressed through his songs.
