Supports apoE ε4 as CHD risk marker in Chinese adults; leaves open whether genotyping improves outcomes.
Background: Numerous studies have evaluated the association between the apolipoprotein E (apoE) gene polymorphisms in coronary heart disease (CHD). However, the results remain uncertain. We carried out a meta-analysis to derive a more comprehensive estimation of the association in Chinese population.

Zhang et al. (2014) conducted a meta-analysis in Coronary Heart Disease (n=13,027). Apolipoprotein E (apoE) ε4 carriers vs. apoE ε3/3 genotype was evaluated on Risk of Coronary Heart Disease (OR 1.96, 95% CI 1.70 to 2.24, p=<0.001). In the Chinese population, carriers of the apoE ε4 allele had a 96% higher risk for coronary heart disease compared to those with the ε3/3 genotype (OR 1.96), whereas the ε2 allele showed no significant association.
