Key Points

  • This paper aims to create a framework for understanding human behavior through the interaction of cognitive and physiological factors.
  • Synthesis of multiple theories including constructive-developmental and stratified systems theories.
  • Cross-cultural stress-testing against Ubuntu and Confucian contexts.
  • Analysis of behavior under acute stress and ethical application guidelines.
  • Framework identifies human behavior as influenced by developmental capacity, physiological state, and social context.
  • Proposes a Dynamic Positioning System with three axes to map individual differences.
  • Includes ethical considerations for application in diverse settings.

Abstract

This working paper presents a multi-dimensional framework for understanding human cognitive and behavioral diversity. It synthesizes Robert Kegan's constructive-developmental theory, Elliott Jaques's Stratified Systems Theory, Self-Determination Theory, and Polyvagal Theory into a three-axis Dynamic Positioning System. The framework maps individuals across a Tier Axis (developmental capacity), a State Axis (physiological regulation), and a Context Axis (social architecture), arguing that behavior is never simply a product of fixed developmental stage but of the interaction between these three dimensions. The paper includes cross-cultural stress-testing against Ubuntu, Confucian, and post-conflict contexts, a shadow dimension analysis of behavior under acute stress, and a full ethical architecture governing responsible application. All primary sources are cited. This is an independent working paper and has not undergone formal peer review. Comments and citations are welcome.
