O VER THE PAST 29 years, the junior author (CBW) has performed 150 transsphenoidal operations on children and adolescents for pituitary adenomas, and this experience provides insights into the development and presentation of pituitary adenomas in the pediatric population. In preparing this review, rather than following the standard journalistic format, we took a personal perspective on surgical management that should be more helpful to endocrinologists and pediatricians in detecting pediatric pituitary adenomas and making decisions about the treatment of patients for whom surgery is a consideration.
