Comparisons of nuclear DNA complementarity were used to determine the extent of genetic relatedness between phenotypically similar species of Pichia. Pichia xylosa, a presumed synonym of P. toletana, proved to be a distinct but closely related species. P. guilliermondii and Candida guilliermondii were confirmed as a teleomorph/anamorph pair. Hansenula ukrainica was shown to be conspecific with P. (H.) anomala and P. cellobiosa to be conspecific with P. methanolica.
