Owing to social and demographic changes, as well as rapid technological advances, the use of information technology (IT) in hospitals is more prevalent today. Consumers are demanding more from healthcare providers, and health IT is one method to deliver safer, more efficient, and more effective patient care. Hospitals are at the center of healthcare delivery and advances in use of IT as part of a provider system will directly impact healthcare delivery. This study helps define the factors associated with the use of IT in a publicly funded system. Urban location and hospital size are associated with the extent of IT use in Ontario.
