Abstract

Abstract Introduction COVID-19 vaccination has proven effective in reducing acute disease severity; however, its impact on post COVID-19 functional recovery remains less well defined. This study evaluated the association between the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses and post COVID-19 functional outcomes, measured using the Post COVID-19 Functional Status (PCFS) scale. To assess the association between the number of COVID-19 vaccine doses received and post COVID-19 functional recovery as measured by the PCFS scale. Methods We conducted a cross-sectional analysis of patients previously infected with SARS-CoV-2, collecting demographic, clinical, and vaccination data alongside functional outcomes at 12 weeks post-infection. PCFS scores at baseline and week 12 were obtained, and the change in PCFS score (ΔPCFS) was calculated. Logistic regression models were used to examine the association between the number of vaccine doses and post COVID-19 functional improvement or maintenance of baseline status, adjusting for age, sex, comorbidities, and rural/urban residenceresults A total of 474 participants were included (47.1% older than 40 years, 65.6% female). The proportion of patients showing PCFS improvement or maintenance increased progressively with the number of vaccine doses: 50.0% (2/4) after one dose, 84.4% (27/32) after two doses, 85.8% (103/120) after three doses, 90.0% (190/211) after four doses, and 100% (2/2) after five doses. In the fully adjusted model, each additional vaccine dose significantly reduced the odds of post COVID-19 functional worsening by 39% (OR = 0.61, 95% CI = 0.40-0.94; p = 0.025). Older age was independently associated with a higher risk of worsening (OR = 1.27, p = 0.036), while comorbidities, sex, and rural/urban residence were not significant predictors. Conclusion A higher number of COVID-19 vaccine doses was independently associated with better post COVID-19 functional outcomes, including improvement or maintenance of baseline functional status, showing a dose-response trend. These findings suggest that repeated vaccination may help not only reduce the severity of acute infection but also support functional recovery following COVID-19. This abstract is funded by: None
