Consciousness is the need to come to terms with oneself, one’s own being. Shobhaa De has felt this need for the woman of her time to come to terms with herself, and she has portrayed her in her novels. The present research paper seeks to examine the level of women‘s consciousness in her novel ’Srilaaji’. Shobhaa De has given a complete view of her character, who asserts her existence and leads her own path rather than begging men around her. She is the ‘New Woman’ who is aware of her freedom, her choices, and her needs. Not only that, she is aware of the way to fulfill her needs and make her own choices.
