Purpose This study aims to advance sustainable supplier selection by integrating the natural resource-based view theory with the triple bottom line framework to identify critical success factors. The economic growth and development are significantly dependent on the regional construction industry. However, this sector also contributes substantially to environmental challenges, including waste generation, resource depletion and pollution. Design/methodology/approach This study advances the field of sustainable supplier selection by integrating the natural resource-based view theory with the triple bottom line framework and using these to identify critical success factors. Expert-based inputs are used in the Bayesian best–worst method (BBWM) to have global and local ranks for the main and sub-criteria that align with the national sustainability standards and regulations. Findings The results indicate that insurance and warranty, lead time, reputation and quality are the most influential criteria in supplier selection. Sustainability-related criteria are recognised as important but remain at a transitional stage of adoption within the Saudi construction context. Research limitations/implications The study is based on an expert-driven case analysis within a single organisational context, which limits statistical generalisability. Future research could extend the model through multi-case validation and comparative analysis across construction sectors. Practical implications The proposed BBWM-based model provides procurement managers with a transparent and robust decision-support tool to evaluate suppliers, manage risk and incorporate sustainability requirements into construction procurement processes.
