A case report of a 62-year-old male with GOLD stage 4 severe COPD undergoing bronchoscopic lung volume reduction therapy with Zephyr EBVs.
Two EBVs were deployed initially, followed by a third valve; monitoring for complications was conducted post-procedure.
The patient developed pneumothorax one hour after placing the third EBV, which persisted despite intercostal chest drainage for five days.
Complete removal of the valves was necessary for resolution of the pneumothorax and the patient stabilized after 10 days.

Abstract

Abstract Introduction Endobronchial valve (EBV) therapy is an established bronchoscopic intervention for patients with advanced emphysema who remain symptomatic despite maximal medical therapy. Although EBV can improve lung function and quality of life, serious complications can occur in patients with severely compromised pulmonary reserve.
