The article substantiates the approach to the formation of an international catalog and databases that specify the assortment and quality characteristics of goods. A method that allows consumers to quickly search for products and services is described. A unified system of description and coding of goods and services is proposed, and the procedure for its formation and application in practice is described. The principle of forming the proposed system when creating a catalog for engineering systems is considered on the example of a product widely distributed on the international market and used in all construction structures - polypropylene pipes and fittings for internal water supply, heating and cooling systems.
