How does one deliver a weight attached to the end of an elastic rod? The theoretical analysis is not trivial. The longest horizontal reach of the rod depends on its length, rigidity and the angle at the base. This nonlinear elastica cantilever problem is formulated and solved by numerical integration. In some cases it may even be better to shorten the rod.
