Review outlines recent strategies to prevent, identify, and manage major AF ablation complications.
Why the study?
How can complications of atrial fibrillation ablation be prevented, recognized, and managed?
How can complications of atrial fibrillation ablation be prevented, recognized, and managed?
This review provides an overview of strategies to prevent, recognize, and manage major complications associated with atrial fibrillation ablation.
May aid clinician awareness of AF ablation complication strategies; leaves open need for prospective outcome data.
Ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of most complex procedures in electrophysiology. Many technical improvements have been incorporated lately in order to improve clinical results and reducing risks. Currently, cardiac tamponade, stroke, PV stenosis, phrenic palsy and atrial esophageal fistula are still recognized as the major risks of AF ablation, although their managements have been much better established. The aim of this article is to review recent data in how to avoid, to identify and to treat such complications.

Maurício Scanavacca (2017) conducted a review in Atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation ablation was evaluated. This review outlines recent data on strategies to prevent, identify, and manage major complications of atrial fibrillation ablation, such as cardiac tamponade, stroke, and atrial esophageal fistula.
