Symbology, situated at the intersection of hermeneutics, sociolinguistics, stylistics, and semiotics, is a complex, multifunctional field. This study examines the somatic symbol head within European ethnolinguistics, emphasizing its cognitive-pragmatic relevance in phraseology and its role in revealing shared and divergent cultural codes in French, English, Italian, and Romanian idioms. Through a contrastive approach, the research identifies five key dimensions: the componential meaning decomposition of the symbol; its functional role in communicative contexts; its cultural conceptualization in ethnolinguistic frameworks; its intercultural variability as a marker of symbolic functions; and its cognitive-pragmatic potential to engage the receiver. The findings contribute to understanding how somatic symbols encode, preserve, and transmit sociocultural imagery across languages.
