These methodological guidelines are based on more than ten years of experience incoordinating social and cultural innovation labs in rural areas. The approach integrateselements drawn from Living Labs, Citizen Labs and entrepreneurship and innovationmethodologies (e.g., the Lombard method, Lean Startup), as well as methodologicaladvances developed in the contexts of territorial mediation, community work and openscience (Fernández, 2023).The Living Labs in the Culturality project (Fuente, 2024) are spaces for collaborativeexperimentation that seek to trigger local processes of cultural, social and economicinnovation, strengthening the diversity of actors and cooperation between citizens, thevoluntary sector, institutions and emerging entrepreneurial projects. We understand thelaboratories as spaces where diverse groups—in terms of age, profession, experience,background, education or gender—come together to collaborate, explore and learncollectively around complex ideas or problems, which they address through processes ofexperimentation and prototyping (Fernández, 2026).
