This paper presents a new equation for injection-locked LC oscillators (ILOs) based on a series RL element in parallel with C. Unlike previous ILO equations based on a parallel RLC tank approximation, the proposed equation is valid for any tank Q and injection strength (K). The model reveals several important properties of low-Q and/or high-K ILOs such as asymmetry in the lock range, reduced phase shift, and higher bandwidth. Experimental results validate the model.
