Metformin Therapy Preserves Superoxide Dismutase and Glutathione Peroxidase, and Minimizes the Enlargement of Ascendant Aorta in the Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes Patients

Yıldırım et al. (2025) conducted a cohort in Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes mellitus (n=81). Metformin monotherapy vs. Metformin plus vildagliptin with or without premixed insulin was evaluated on Change in superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels from baseline to 6 months (p=0.304). Metformin monotherapy preserved superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase levels and minimized the enlargement of the ascendant aorta over 6 months in newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes patients.
