Undergrounding of 33kV overhead wires. Between January and April 2024 RSK ADAS Ltd carried out an archaeological monitoring for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) (hereafter the 'Client') of groundworks required for the Crookham to Coxmoor Wood 33kV Cable Undergrounding Route on land between Crookham and Coxmoor Wood, Hampshire. The objective of the archaeological monitoring was to record all archaeological remains exposed during groundworks for the works between (NGR: SU 80979 50667 to SU 78374 50831). The monitored groundworks consisted of two segments of the cable trench, identified as Trench 1 and Trench 2. Trench 1 was located in the east of the Scheme, starting at Ridding's Copse and heading west to Redfields Lane (NGR: SU 80979 50667 to SU 80320 50843). Trench 2 was located in the west of the Scheme, heading north from Farnham Road before heading northeast across Rye Common Lane before heading north/northwest to its terminus at Croxmoor Wood Substation (NGR: SU 78285 50319 to SU 78374 50831). Despite the potential for buried archaeological remains in the area associated with known heritage assets, no significant archaeological features were identified during the archaeological monitoring and recording. In carrying out this work SSEN complied with their obligations to the historic environment, as outlined in Section 38 and Schedule 9 of the Electricity Act 1989.
