Watching brief uncovers farmstead structural remains in Carrington, indicating historical occupation.
The three watching brief areas, totalling c 460m2, revealed structural remains relating to the targeted farmstead buildings that formerly occupied the site. These comprised various brick walls, drains, and a possible cobblestone floor surface, alongside associated features and deposits including wells/cisterns, a large pit, and a possible midden deposit. A small assemblage of post-medieval finds further attests to the rural occupation of the site. The monitoring of the groundworks associated with the proposed development of the site revealed structural elements of the farm complex, Stamford House (later Stamford Farm), illustrated on historic mapping (Cawley 1841; OS 1877).
