The scheme of strip, map and record was applied during all ground disturbance in accordance with details outlined in the approved WSI (Brocklehurst April 2017). The broad aim of the scheme was to: " Determine the form and function of any archaeological features exposed. " Recover artefactual and other dating material/evidence. " Establish the sequence of and contextualised archaeological deposits. " Ensure the professional and respectful treatment of human remains, if exposed During development excavations, an excavator fitted with a flat bladed toothless bucket was used, with an experienced field archaeologist being present during all soil stripping. Where identified, archaeological features/deposits were examined to determine their date and character. These were recorded on scaled plans and section drawings as required. Photographs were taken throughout the project using a high-resolution digital camera, including: " general location views depicting the area of works; " working views documenting progress; " individual burials in plan and/or section; A written record of each significant stratigraphic horizon and archaeological feature was made using standard PCAS context recording forms. A narrative account in the form of a site diary was also updated on each working day. Development groundworks took place over a 28 working day period with segmented returns due to waiting for the next stages of ground developments on site. Work initially began on the 30/09/19 and continued through too the 23/04/21. Excavation areas were marked out prior to work with spray paint or string lines prior. The first initial visit was made 30/09/23 involved supervising the groundworks for the entrance of site and for the proposed road which connects all 14 dwellings. This stage of work included using a flat bladed bucket measuring 1.8 meters. The excavation for the road was completed by the 02/10/19 and once this area had proved to contain no archaeological features or deposits the groundworks team backfilled the areas with limestone type 2 material. Whilst machining a modern pit was encountered which was excavated and contained modern glazed pottery sherds within its deposit. Due to the modern dating material within the deposit the feature was photographed and left. A ditch was also recorded and excavated between house plots 6 and 8 which contained no dating but a fill which seemed fairly recent deposited. locations of these features have been stored within PCAS Archaeology's archive's
