Case report demonstrates long-term management of recurrent choroid plexus papilloma, suggesting effective treatment strategies.
PURPOSE: Choroid plexus papillomas (CPP) are most often benign intracranial tumors that present with hydrocephalus and increased intracranial pressure. We report the long-term management of a practicing anesthesiologist who developed neuraxis leptomeningeal spread of recurrent tumor eight years after initial surgical resection of a cerebellopontine angle tumor. METHODS: Over a 20-year interval, thirteen stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) procedures and spinal radiation therapy were performed for 32 recurrent tumor implants scattered in the brain and spine, with radiosurgical treatment beginning eight years after the primary surgery. In the last 36 months of life, bevacizumab immunotherapy was added. RESULTS/CONCLUSION: He continued to practice medicine until neurological deficits developed during the last six months of life, following a prolonged period of disease stability.
