The evaluation consisted of four test pits, three measuring 1m x 1m and one 1.60m x 0.80m. They were positioned beneath the arch, two on each side. All investigatory works were undertaken in accordance with the approved WSI (Lane, 2024). The test pit locations were provided by Soul Architects. The test pit locations were checked for live services with a Cable Avoidance Tool before being hand excavated under archaeological supervision. The exposed surfaces were then cleaned by hand, and any features encountered were sample excavated. A representative section of the test pit baulk was drawn at scale 1:20 in each test pit; these section drawings were located on plans of the individual trenches at scale 1:20. Features and deposits were recorded on standard PCAS record sheets, and an excavation site diary was also kept; a digital photographic record was made, and extracts from this are reproduced throughout this report. The test pits were excavated under supervision of J. Sleight between April 15th, 2024 and April 16th, 2024. Weather conditions were sunny with occasional showers. Ground conditions were dry and stable. No archaeological features were encountered during the monitoring programme, although possible traces of the former layout of the parterre garden were recorded.
