Cultural heritage assessment identifies potential archaeological remains in Wroot, suggesting further investigation.
A Cultural Heritage Desk-Based Assessment undertaken by Crestwood Environmental Ltd on behalf of Mr. Nigel; Brownbridge in support of a Proposed Development comprising a new fishponds on land at Thiorn Bank, Wroot, North Lincs, and in combination with a Site visit attempted to assess possible effects on the known and unknown Heritage Assets of the Proposed Development. An examination of the data held by NLHER suggests that there is a Medium potential for the presence of below ground archaeological remains of any period within the Site. However, there is a High potential for paleoenvironmental remains within the site, considering the proximity to the remains of a prehistoric forest containing bog oaks (MLS24697). As well as this, the possible preservation of medieval turbaries and strip fields suggests that a programme of environmental sampling would be beneficial, and, depending on the suitability of the sample, scientific dating also. This would be complemented trial trench evaluation of the site.
