In 1978, the Council on Social Work Education suggested the use of a model based on a “dual perspective” to understand minority problems. Moving beyond this model and beyond medical and ecological systems models, the authors suggest a sociocultural approach and present a three-stage model for practice with minority clients. They suggest that practice with minorities focus on the degree and kind of dislocation—social, cultural or sociocultural—suffered by individual clients.
