From th e be ginning, dapson e was used as monoth erapy in a vari ety of dosag es, although, by the time th e drug was in use worldwide, it had already be en es tablish ed that cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis could not be cur ed by monoth erapy with any antitub erculosis drug. As a re sult, drug re sistanc e in le prosy has be come a se rious probl em, and de mands imm ediate action.
