Persistent sexual arousal is an unusual, rarely diagnosed but real problem for some women which causes considerable physical and psychological distress. It is characterized by physiological signs of sexual arousal that persist despite the absence of sexual desire. Typically, the arousal does not resolve with ordinary orgasmic experience and for many women it is experienced as unwanted and intrusive. There are some women who enjoy the state of persistent arousal and who do not present for treatment, so the prevalence and cause of the condition are currently unknown. Various psychological and medical treatments have been used to treat this condition with varying success.
