The cross-field current is calculated as a function of the applied electric field, density, and temperature gradients in a given perturbed magnetic field. The current is calculated both for the cases of regular and stochastic magnetic fields. The analysis is focused on the impact of local ambipolarity. It is demonstrated that the local ambipolarity requirement results in the significant suppression of the cross-field radial current with respect to the current of test particles.
