Carvedilol-loaded novasomes markedly improve post-ischemic motor recovery and cognitive function versus controls in preclinical testing.
Why the study?
Does a nasal spray formulation of carvedilol-loaded novasomes improve bioavailability and anti-ischaemic effects in a rat model of diabetes mellitus-associated ischemic stroke?
Does a nasal spray formulation of carvedilol-loaded novasomes improve bioavailability and anti-ischaemic effects in a rat model of diabetes mellitus-associated ischemic stroke?
A novel nasal spray formulation of carvedilol-loaded novasomes significantly improved drug bioavailability and demonstrated anti-ischaemic behavioral benefits in a rat model of diabetes-associated ischemic stroke.
evaluation in an experimental rat model of DM-associated IS. The optimal CNF formulation enhanced sustainability, bioavailability and permeability of carvedilol by 71.93%, 5.79-fold and 7.30-fold, respectively. The optimal CNF demonstrated anti-ischaemic effects by significantly enhancing various measures, including flexion, spontaneous motor activity, grip strength and target quadrant location time, with improvements of 93.72%, 88.53%, 96.57% and 353%, respectively, in comparison to the positive control group. The optimal CNF also improved the drug's targeting to the brain. These results indicate that a nasal spray formulation of the optimal CNF could serve as a promising therapy for DM-associated IS.

Fouad et al. (2025) studied diabetes mellitus-associated ischemic stroke. carvedilol-loaded novasomes vs. positive control group was evaluated on anti-ischaemic effects including flexion, spontaneous motor activity, grip strength and target quadrant location time. Carvedilol-loaded novasomes significantly improved flexion (93.72%), spontaneous motor activity (88.53%), grip strength (96.57%), and target quadrant location time (353%) vs positive control.
